National Certificate for Dental Nurses

The National Certificate for Dental Nurses qualification from the NEBDN is one of only two mandatory qualifications required in order to work as a dental nurse in the UK. The other is the City & Guilds NVQ equivalent.

You can work as a trainee dental nurse without the NEBDN qualification but only if you are registered with an approved training provider to start a training course or you are already completing a training course. You can register with the General Dental Council (GDC) only once you have your qualification awarded to you by the NEBDN.

Who can join the course?
Provided that you can meet the minimum academic qualifications and clinical experience then you can apply to join the next course. If you wish to view these again then click here. Students can pass the examination but cannot qualify until they have completed two years full-time employment with a GDC registered dental practitioner.

How much does it cost?
The 2010/11 course fee is £780. This includes the examination fee of £165 and the Record of Experience master document fee of £20. The whole course fee is payable in advance and is non-refundable. The examination part of the course fee is refundable if the examination is not taken.

In certain circumstances the fee can be paid over a number of instalments. You must, though, contact the course administrator (see below) at the time your application has been approved to arrange this.

What is involved?
The next course will begin on 6th October 2010.  There are up to 40 weekly Wednesday evening lectures, each lasting two hours between 6.30pm and 8.30pm.  The examination date for this course is in November 2011.
